Tier breakdown

What each tier actually means for you

A tier is not a score — it is a judgment about how fast a unit pays for itself in your current position. Read the tier that applies to you, not just the top of the list.

Tier S

S-Tier — the units you save gems for

S-tier units are your endgame damage backbone. In Anime Origins your team lives or dies by damage-per-team-slot, and S-tier units are the ones that justify hoarding gems instead of spending them. Super Saiyan Wanderer is the main damage carry; Cursed-Eye Sorcerer covers AOE wave clear; Blazing Vegeta Warrior is notable because it is both a meta unit and easy to evolve — the kind of pull that should be an immediate star-and-evolve target. Do not chase S-tier in your first hour. These units pay off only once you already have a stable gem income from story mode, so treat them as the destination of a plan, not the start of it.

Tier A

A-Tier — the reliable mid-game carries

A-tier units are the sweet spot between power and availability. They carry hard story waves and farm gems and gold fast enough to fund the next tier up, which makes them the workhorses of your account through most of the game. Shadow Strike Assassin gives single-target burst for boss phases, and Pirate King Leader scales a team-wide buff — both keep their value even after you add S-tier damage because they fill distinct roles. If you pull an A-tier unit early, level it up and run it; it will earn back its gems through the faster wave clear it unlocks on the way to something bigger.

Tier B

B-Tier — budget picks that hold early game

B-tier units are your starter safety net. Titan-Shifter Warrior is a cheap tank that can take a hit while your damage units ramp, and Spiky-Hair Stand User is a balanced, easy-to-level beginner unit you are likely to see in an early summon or story reward. They are not waste — they carry you through early story when you have no gems to spend and let you reach the point where gem income starts flowing. The rule of thumb: run B-tier until an A-tier appears, then promote. Star a B-tier only if it is genuinely carrying your team; resist the urge to overspend on units you will replace.

Tier C

C-Tier — fillers, not projects

C-tier units exist to fill a slot on day one, nothing more. Hunter Inspecter is a common summon and a placeholder until a better carry shows up. The trap is treating a C-tier as a long-term project: do not burn evolve gems on it and do not sink stars into it, because the moment an A or S-tier arrives it is out of the team and every gem you spent on it is gone. Use C-tier to clear the first few waves, then free those gems for real upgrades.

Methodology

How these tiers are decided

Compare each unit’s job, wave clear speed and the cost of completing its evolution.

1. Damage per role

What does the slot do?

Compare ground damage, Hill coverage, control and income. Replace a unit when the alternative improves the job your team needs.

2. Wave clear speed

How fast does it clear?

Faster wave clear means more story stages, quests, and first-clear gems per minute. Units that one-shot waves farm the currencies that fund everything else, so speed compounds.

3. Payback time

When does it pay for itself?

A unit is only worth the gems if it clears waves fast enough to earn that investment back. Easier-to-star and easier-to-evolve units climb their tier because their gems return sooner.

Mode

Choose for your mode

For Story, prioritize affordable deployments; in Raids, budget boss damage and Hill coverage; in Mansion, add control.

Materials

Finish one recipe

Reserve 300 Spirit Petals for Ban’s Fountain or 500 Cursed Tickets for Yuta’s Ring; use the profile to total Remnants.

Judgment

Rank against your goal

Choose boss damage for Raids, control for Mansion and affordable deployments for Story. Bring air coverage when flyers are the problem.

Realistic expectations

Do not chase S-tier on day one

The tier list is a map, not a shopping list. Where you are in the loop decides which tier is actually worth your gems right now.

Early game

Stable gems come first

Your first job is not to own an S-tier unit — it is to build a stable gem income. First-clearing each story awards roughly 1,800 gems, and normal plus hard difficulty double the pass through that gempile. Run story on a B-tier budget team until the gems are stacking, and only then look up the tier list with real money in hand.

Mid game

Chase S and A with savings

Once first-clear gems fund a steady stream, that is the moment to spend on an S or A-tier carry: one strong unit, starred up and evolved, will beat five random summons of unhelpful rolls. Aim for a single high-value unit per gem pile rather than spreading thin across the table.

Late game

Evolve when it stops carrying

A unit's value is not permanent. When your main carry stops one-shotting waves on hard, that is the signal to evolve it into its stronger form or rotate in the next-tier unit your artifact and trait loadout now supports. Evolution is a repair, not a celebration.

Mindset

The loop, not the lineup

Treat units as inputs to a loop: clear waves, earn gems, reinvest in a unit that clears faster, clear harder waves. The list helps you pick the input, but progress comes from running the loop — see the best gem method below.

What to do today

Your one-session unit plan

A short checklist that turns this tier list into an action plan you can finish in a single play session.

  1. Step 1

    Redeem every working code

Free gems and gold multiply the whole plan. Check the codes page first and bank whatever is live before touching summons.

    Open working codes
  2. Step 2

    Run story first-clear for gems

Collect each story’s first-clear rewards on Normal and Hard. The roughly 1,800 first-clear total is paid once; use repeat rewards for ongoing farming calculations.

    Story mode guide
  3. Step 3

Spend gems on one strong unit

Pick your best A or S-tier need and chase that unit instead of gambling gems on random rolls. One reliable carry beats ten unhelpful summons.

    Plan the spend
  4. Step 4

Level up and finish the evolution

Use EXP for levels, then collect Remnants and the evolution item. Prisms and Ascension are separate upgrades to improve the finished unit.

    How evolution works
Decision block

Summon or save? Decide before you spend

The single most costly mistake in Anime Origins is spending gems reactively. Run this two-question check before any summon.

Question 1

Is the unit on the list?

Only spend gems on a unit that is already ranked in your target tier — an A or S-tier carry with the role your team actually lacks. If a random roll could give you a C-tier filler or a duplicate, that gem is better saved. Save, and your next choice is a decision; spend blind, and your choice is a gamble.

Question 2

Does it beat saving?

A strong unit pays for itself if its faster wave clear out-earns what those gems would buy once saved and stacked. When a unit stops carrying you, evolution or the next-tier upgrade beats another random summon. Run the numbers in the calculator and choose the investment, not the impulse.

Next step

Turn the unit into the loop

A unit is only worth it if it clears waves. Chain it into artifacts, traits, and the best gem method.

Frequently asked questions

Which Anime Origins units are the best?

The best units raise your damage-per-team-slot, which clears harder story waves and farms gems/gold faster. Rank them by what you're progressing toward.

Are units worth the gems?

A better unit pays for itself if its damage outperforms saving for the next summon. Spend gems on strong units, not random rolls.

Should I chase S-tier units first?

No. S-tier is an endgame target, not an early-game goal. Chase S and A units only after you have a stable gem income from story first-clear rewards.

How do I make a summoned unit stronger?

Level and evolve your carries, use traits for combat modifiers, and open artifacts for quest and crafting items.
